Most tunnel rats didn’t touch the usual poison. No booze, no smokes, no candy, not even gum. Down in the dark, a sweet tooth or a lit cigarette could sell you out quicker than a gunshot. One whiff of the wrong thing and you weren’t a rat in a tunnel anymore — you were meat in a trap.
