PHOTOGRAPHER’S LOG:

Cobra Island, Infantry Bunker 7. Mop-up duty.

Always started out the same way on these ‘door-knockers’ — a calculated staring contest with steel and aged concrete.

The charges were coming, but for a fleeting moment it seemed like he might just tear those doors open with his bare hands, like some disgruntled strongman working the midway.

The island was eerily still...and quiet. Not a sound.

Wasn’t going to stay that way for long.

He spent his childhood dreaming up stories using action figures in the backyard of his home in East Aurora, NY, appropriately nicknamed “Toytown”.
