FIELD NOTES:

Specialized Armadillidiidae descended from ancient Himalayan crustaceans were used by Cobra La legions to attack enemies, disrupt cavalry, and guard encampments. Armored with spiked exoskeletons or ‘hy-mail’, these massive, ferocious Pillbugs were considered essential to the ranks of the Royal Guard. Loyal "living weapons" by design, they also made for affectionate companions to the warriors they were paired with.

The Web of Remembrance speaks highly of their incredible bravery and loyalty, with some passages describing them as "braver than lions and more faithful than men”.

Paul Panfalone

Paul Panfalone is a Cleveland, OH based artist and toy photographer. He spent his childhood dreaming up stories using action figures in the backyard of his home in East Aurora, NY, appropriately nicknamed “Toytown”. Now as an adult (sort of), he imagines new worlds with those same figures and lives their adventures through the lens of his camera, much like he did back home, over thirty years ago.
